It has been another busy year for the Pershing County Cattlewomen.
Since last year's annual update, we have added many new events to our
beef promotion activities. We have an amazing
group of women who have
a lot of energy and creative ideas.
In March we organized our annual "Ag
in the classroom" demonstration for the 3rd
grade classes in Pershing
County School District. We had Dennis Hellwinkle present dairy cattle
to the students and discuss agriculture with the students.
In May we held our annual membership luncheon and our Scholarship
committee chose a qualified scholarship recipient. We also had our
annual Father's Day Beef contest for 1st grade and 2nd grade students.
As summer began we served chili at the Food Fest held at Pershing County
Middle School. We have been serving beef at this event for 2 years in
order to remind teenagers about the nutritional benefits and importance
of beef in their diet. Each year we are surprised to see the number of
young girls who consume our beef appetizer compared to the number of
boys.
Over the summer we held our annual "4th of July Kiddie Parade"
and
served concessions at the 2nd Annual Family Farm night. This year we
served hamburgers instead of hotdogs at the concession stand and moved
our booth to a more visible location, which dramatically boosted our
sales.
Finally in September we had an "Ice Cream Social" membership
drive.
From the event, we have gained at least 2 new members and we are hoping
for more.
In early December we had our usual beef sandwich booth at the
Christmas Craft show. On December 13, we held
the 3rd Annual Christmas Tour of Homes. The event was a sensational
affair. We had 6 homeowners display their homes and we had
approximately 90 guests attend the Tour throughout the evening. Beef
appetizers were served at the homes and each home had a recipe card for
the beef appetizer being served.
Some of our upcoming events for 2004, include Ag in the Classroom, a
banquet for the Eagles, a Rancher's Bar-B-Que, a 46th Birthday
Celebration for our local chapter.
